City Guard Division (Guard Phorsis)

The Guard Phorsis, the 1st Karameikan Division, the City Guard Division; all are names of the most highly trained and experienced of Karameikan units. It was formed in the year 971 AC, shortly after the arrival of Duke Stephan.

Prior to the civil war of 995 AC the unit was about 80% Thyatian, 15% Traladaran, and the remainder were Darine, Half-Breed, and some dwarves. Since then the ranks has swelled with new recruits and it is much more evenly balanced; 30% Thyatian, 30% Traladaran, 15% Darine and Half-Breed, 5% Callari Elf, 5% Dwarf, and 15% Orc.

In reality, the division has enough battalions for three divisions. In times of war it may become the 10th, 11th, and 12th Guard Divisions of Karameikos if the situation warrants it. The division has a total of thirty battalions! Each battalion is led by a captain and has three squadrons. Each squadron is led by a lieutenant and has four platoons. Each platoon is led by a sergeant and has four sticks. Each stick is lead by a squad leader and has ten men. There are twelve cavalry battalions, twelve infantry battalions (six of which are sword-armed archers) and six artillery battalions (three fortification-based and three capable of independent transport). Additional forces, commanded by the command staff itself, are: a patrol cavalry battalion (in peacetime they patrol outside the wall and in wartime act as reconnaisance patrols), an engineer battalion (they are experts at building fortifications and knocking them down), a medical battalion (employing magical and religious healers), a transport battalion (96 wagons and their crews), a supply battalion, a repair/ordnance battalion (with platoons for armoring, swordsmithing, bowyery/fletchery, artillerymaking, general smithing, carpentry, masonry, forestry, cartwrights, foraging, horsetrading, horse care, and tinkering,) a squadron of warrior-magicians, a squadron of warrior priests, a special forces squadron (whose purpose in peacetime is to investigate dangerous sites and magical occurances in the City, and in wartime to act as a special guard for the Command Staff and to conduct raids on enemy logistics.) The command staff of the division consists of six generals, three wizards, and three priests. The command staff for a battalion consists of two lieutenants, a magician, and a priest.

To be a member of this profession you begin with basic combat training.

Basic Combat Training (Available in Childhood)
