The halflings call themselves Hin. The Hin are respectful of property and the dignity of others. They may feign innocence and/or stupidity to outsiders, but they are neither in reality. They are proud, but not to the point of insult at slights. They are sensitive to the needs of others. While they are inquisitive and curious, they are not pushy.
It is wrong to see halflings as mischievous children. They respect the dignity and property of others.
The Hin venerate their elders, but do not understand religions. They believe strongly in personal freedom. They do not understand when people impose their wills upon others. Halflings will fearlessly tell someone when they have crossed the line.
Children are called Hinling, and they owe service to their family or clan in return for protection. Adolescents are called Yallaren and they have the right to speak and act freely. Hin are halfling adults and have full rights.
Among less adventurous Hin a favorite pastime is to blend pipesmoke mixes. They enjoy smoking after meals. Meals generally consist of ale, cheese, hot buttered biscuits, jelly, and cinnamon paste.
