This power allows the magician to use a specially prepared ritual to perform magical workings. When this power is first purchased you know how to perform one spell within a magical intention. New inentions or spells can be researched so long as you have the skill Knowledge of Magic. Here are some examples of specials for Basic Ritual Magic:
Step One: Decide upon the benefit or power you desire.
Step Two: Choose the totem that is most appropriate, if you have knowledge of such; otherwise consult someone who does.
Step Three: Find a place that is appropriate to the totem you are going to summon. Failure to be in such a place results in automatic failure.
Step Four: Find a suitable tool. Failure to do so results in automatic failure.
Step Five: Fast for a week prior to the summoning. Failure to perform this step results in a -15 point modifier to the die roll for the working.
Step Six: Meditate upon your working for a day prior to the working. Lack of the skill Meditation does not hinder the working. Failure to perform this step results in a +15 point modifier to your die roll.
Step Seven: Begin the working by performing a consecration of the working site and tools. This involves sprinkling salt (at least 10 Bone Coins worth) over the area and the ritual tool while saying a prayer to the totem. A successful Basic Ritual Magic roll results in a consecrated tool. Failure results in total failure of the working. This requires one full minute. Any interruption results in total failure of the working. Accidents are resolved as normal.
Step Eight: Continue by gathering the necessary power for the ritual. Daub your face with the appropriate color paint while dancing in a circle around the area and singing a song to the totem you wish to summon. This requires two minutes time. Make a successful Basic Ritual Magic roll to be able to continue. Failure results in both failure of the working and a minor backlash. There is an automatic -1 modifier for this stage.
Step Nine: Cry out to the totem and ask for it to appear before you. A successful Basic Ritual Magic roll indicates that the totem makes an appearance in its normal form. There is a -2 modifier for this stage.
Step Ten: The totem will test the character, this is the pact. The specific test is up to the GM and the nature of the totem. If the character fails, then the working fails. If the character annoys the totem, then the result is failure and a major backlash. Success allows the character to go to the next step. This step can take up to two hours.
Step Eleven: The totem will ask the character what it wants. The player now makes the most important Basic Ritual Magic roll of the ceremony with a -3 modifier. If the result is a failure, the totem will apologize, and state that though the caster is worthy it is not within the capability of the caster to receive the desired gift. Then it will depart, but not before marking the character in some way. The next time the caster performs the ritual it will be successful if every step is adhered to. This step takes one minute.
Step Twelve: The character thanks the totem for its cooperation and bids its leave to depart. Another Basic Ritual Magic roll is made, this time at -4. Failure indicates a minor backlash as the totem departs. Success indicates that the totem departs in peace. This step takes one minute.
The Rialar is the totem of the domestic servant and the household. In game terms there is a -5 modifier to make a pact with this totem. This is best summoned in your home. The tool of this totem is a common broom. The color of this totem is gray. A minor backlash from this totem is that the household becomes filthy. A major backlash from this totem results in the household being in a state of disrepair. A catastrophic backlash results in the household being destroyed. The appearance of this totem is that of a hunched old maid.
The Riadrimar is the totem of the rodent and stealth. In game terms there is a -5 modifier to make a pact with this totem. This is summoned anywhere in an urban setting. The tool of this totem is a black cloak. The color of this totem is black. A minor backlash from this totem is that the character acquires the extreme condition Obvious at 1. A major backlash from this totem results in the character acquiring the extreme condition Obvious at 5. A catastrophic backlash results in the character acquiring the extreme condition Obvious at 10. The appearance of this totem is that of a huge Tegath (a very large rodent).
The Rishonind is the totem of the watcher and divination. In game terms there is a -5 modifier to make a pact with this totem. This is summoned anywhere that has a good view of the surroundings (a hill, a rocky outcropping, etc.). The tool of this totem is a silver mirror. The color of this totem is silver. A minor backlash from this totem is that the character becomes blind or deaf for the remainder of the day. A major backlash from this totem results in the character being blind or deaf for a year. A catastrophic backlash results in the character being blind or deaf for life. The appearance of this totem is that of a wise old borigonian.
The Rivemar is the totem of the defender and protection. In game terms there is a -5 modifier to make a pact with this totem. This is summoned in defensible terrain. The tool of this totem is a round shield. The color of this totem is white. A minor backlash from this totem is that the character becomes vulnerable (+/-5 detrimental modifier to any defense attempt) for the day. A major backlash from this totem results in the character being vulnerable for a year. A catastrophic backlash results in the character being vulnerable forever. The appearance of this totem is that of a warrior maiden bearing only a shield.
The Riangap is the totem of the hunter and the warrior. In game terms there is a -5 modifier to make a pact with this totem. This is summoned in the wilderness. The tools of this totem is a Borigonian bow or a military spear. The color of this totem is red. A minor backlash from this totem is that the character takes a Light damage hit to a random location. A major backlash from this totem results in the character being hit as if by a Medium blow in a random location. A catastrophic backlash results in the character being effected as if by a Heavy blow to a random location. In any case, armor or other protections are totally ineffective. The appearance of this totem is that of a huntsman.
The Risindall is the totem of flight and travel. In game terms there is a -10 modifier to make a pact with this totem. This is summoned only in good weather in the open. The tool of this totem is the feather of a Anandar (a colorful bird). The color of this totem is sky blue. A minor backlash from this totem is that the character is transported to a place within one kilometer of the working location and all tools are scattered within the one kilometer radius circle. A major backlash from this totem results in the character being transported ten kilometers distance and all tools and such are transported within the ten kilometer radius circle. A catastrophic backlash results in the character being transported away with all tools... The appearance of this totem is that of a Anandar.
The Risha is the totem of beauty and illusion. In game terms there is a -10 modifier to make a pact with this totem. This is summoned anywhere there are people other than yourself. The tool of this totem is a mincrebar handled hair brush. The color of this totem is gold. A minor backlash from this totem is that the character becomes insane for a day. A major backlash from this totem results in the character becoming insane for a year. A catastrophic backlash results in the character going insane permanently. The appearance of this totem is that of an extremely sexy member of the opposite sex.
The Riborigon is the totem of the land itself. In game terms there is a -10 modifier to make a pact with this totem. This is summoned anywhere in the land. The tool of this totem is a nugget of silver. The color of this totem is brown. A minor backlash from this totem is that there is a storm that drenches the caster and ruins all preparations. A major backlash from this totem results in a major storm and the caster is struck by lightning (treat as a heavy blow to a random area of the body at maximum damage). A catastrophic backlash results in the caster being destroyed by lightning. The appearance of this totem is that of a humanoid shaped fog enshrouded mass of mud and rock.
The Rikulm is the totem of dreams and messages. In game terms there is a -10 modifier to make a pact with this totem. This is summoned only while asleep. The tool of this totem is a blue sleep mask. The color of this totem is dark blue. A minor backlash from this totem is that the character is unable to wake for a day. A major backlash from this totem results in the character being in a coma for a year (there is a 10% chance of death during this time, and another 10% chance of permanent damage, reducing IN by 1). A catastrophic backlash results in the character being drawn into the land of dreams (on the low astral plane) forever, the body is dead. The appearance of this totem is that of a ghostly Borigonian of uncertain features.
The Rigapell is the totem of death and necromancy. In game terms there is a -10 modifier to make a pact with this totem. This is summoned only below ground level. The tool of this totem is a coffin nail. The color of this totem is black. A minor backlash from this totem is that the character being rendered unconscious for the day. A major backlash from this totem results in the character being in a coma for a year. A catastrophic backlash results in the death of the character. The appearance of this totem is that of a skeleton covered with reeking and rotting flesh.

A major backlash from this totem results in the character going insane forever. A catastrophic backlash results in the character and everything in a radius of one hundred meters being totally destroyed. This totem has no appearance other than a rapidly and constantly shifting form.
The Richy is the totem of life and healing. In game terms there is a -20 modifier to make a pact with this totem. This is summoned anywhere there is life. The tool of this totem is a drop of blood from the caster. The color of this totem is red and white. A minor backlash from this totem is that the character contracts a disabling disease for a day. A major backlash from this totem results in the character contracting a disabling disease for a year. A catastrophic backlash results in the horrible death of the character. This totem has the appearance of a shaft of sunlight.
