Basic Psychic Powers
Introduction
These are powers that are completely passive
or require the cooperation of the target.
Bodily Control
This internal power allows the psychic to
enhance their physical capabilities. The
level of success is split between the level
of effect and the duration (see Modifiers
below). This power may be acquired by spending
History Points or by spending at least ten
weeks (less the PY of the character) in daily
meditation (with at least eight hours of
meditation daily). Use of this skill has
no psychic power detriment. Here are some
examples of specials for Bodily Control:
- The psychic can duplicate any specific basic
PF- or MA-based skill using this power.
- The psychic can duplicate any specific difficult
PF- or MA-based skill using this power.
- +1 when using PY as a modifier (this is a
researched special and may not be acquired
through a level increase).
- The psychic can duplicate any specific extreme
PF- or MA-based skill using this power (only
if the character has achieved a multiple
of 5 in their level).
- Increase the character's damage capacity
by 1 (only on a multiple of 5).
- Increase the character's speed factor by
1 (only on a multiple of 5).
- Improve the difficulty classification by
one (this is a level-of-five special).
- Magical effect for a detriment, (this is
a level-of-five special and the character
must have an MP of 1 or more). When using
this you gain a basic power detriment but
are able to add 60 to your success roll for
mundane tasks, or take the same detriment
and perform a feat of bodily control that
can only be described as magical (such as
the ability to change shape to a specific
shape), this must be specified when you acquire
the special.
- Combine two existing specials.
Clairvoyance
A basic power of perception allowing the
character to see what is happening at a place
known to the character. This power may be
acquired by spending History Points or by
spending at least ten weeks (less the PY
of the character) in daily meditation (with
at least eight hours of meditation daily).
Here are some examples of specials for clairvoyance:
- The character can also hear what is happening.
- Gain a +1 when a person known to the psychic
is present at the target (this is a researched
special and may not be acquired through
a
level increase).
- Sense supernatural forces (only on a multiple
of 5).
- Improve the difficulty classification by
one (this is a level-of-five special).
- Magical effect for a detriment, (this is
a level-of-five special and the character
must have an MP of 1 or more). When using
this you gain a basic power detriment but
are able to add 60 to your success roll for
mundane tasks, or take the same detriment
and perform a feat of clairvoyance that can
only be described as magical (such as the
ability to communicate with those at the
location you are seeing), this must be specified
when you acquire the special.
- Combine two existing specials.
Cooperative Empathy
Must have the power Sensitivity to acquire
this power of emotion. Cooperative empathy
allows the character to experience the emotions
of others so long as they are willing to
allow it. The level of success is split between
the effect and the distance to the target.
The effect manifests as the number of emotions
that can be felt. Development of this skill
is spontaneous, though it appears frequently
after the character experiences someone else's
emotional trauma. This is a passive skill
and incurs no power detriment. Here is are
some examples of specials for Cooperative
Empathy:
- The psychic can draw an emotion out of an
individual and take it into themselves; thus
relieving the target of that emotion. This
requires a basic detriment.
- The psychic can draw a psychological problem
out of individual and take it into themselves;
thus relieving the target of that problem.
This requires a basic detriment.
- The psychic can project an emotion. This
requires a basic detriment.
- +1 when using Sensitivity as a modifier (this
is a researched special and may not be acquired
through a level increase).
- Improve the difficulty classification by
one (this is a level-of-five special).
- The psychic can diagnose emotional or psychological
problems (only on a multiple of 5, and only
if the psychic is experienced at drawing
emotions and psychological problems out of
individuals).
- The psychic can heal emotional or psychological
damage (only on a multiple of 10, and only
if the psychic has experience at diagnosis).
- Magical effect for a detriment, (this is
a level-of-five special and the character
must have an MP of 1 or more). When using
this you gain a basic power detriment but
are able to add 60 to your success roll for
mundane tasks, or take the same detriment
and perform a feat of cooperative empathy
that can only be described as magical (such
as the ability to take on a wou nd or disease
to heal the individual afflicted), this must
be specified when you acquire the special.
- Combine two existing specials.
Cooperative Healing
Must have the power Sensitivity to acquire
this power of thought. Cooperative healing
allows the psychic to heal others who are
willing to be healed. The level of success
is split between range to the target and
the effect. The effect manifests as a pool
of HP that amy be used to buy down adverse
physical and mechanical conditions (such
as pain, bleeding, afflicted, etc.) Development
of this power is spontaneous, though it is
frequently manifest after sustaining a wound.
This is active and incurs a basic power detriment.
Here is are some examples of specials for
Cooperative Healing:
- The psychic can diagnose illness or wound
effects.
- +1 when using Sensitivity as a modifier (this
is a researched special and may not be acquired
through a level increase).
- The psychic can extend the healing with a
duration, throughout which the target will
receive the benefit of the healing at the
level of effect (only if the character has
achieved a multiple of 5 in their level).
- Improve the difficulty classification by
one (this is a level-of-five special).
- Magical effect for a detriment, (this is
a level-of-five special and the character
must have an MP of 1 or more). When using
this you gain a basic power detriment but
are able to add 60 to your success roll for
mundane tasks, or take the same detriment
and perform a feat of cooperative healing
that can only be described as magical (such
as the ability to heal wounds that can only
be healed by magic), this must be specified
when you acquire the special.
- Combine two existing specials.
Cooperative Telepathy
The character must have the power Sensitivity
to acquire this power of thought. Cooperative
telepathy is the ability to transfer thoughts
from one mind to another, so long as both
parties are willing. The level of success
is split between the effect, the range to
the other mind, and the duration. This power
develops spontaneously. Using this skill
results in a basic psychic detriment. Here
is are some examples of specials for Cooperative
Telepathy:
- The psychic can include more than one other
in the transfer of thoughts.
- +1 when using Sensitivity as a modifier (this
is a researched special and may not be acquired
through a level increase).
- Improve the difficulty classification by
one (this is a level-of-five special).
- Magical effect for a detriment, (this is
a level-of-five special and the character
must have an MP of 1 or more). When using
this you gain a basic power detriment but
are able to add 60 to your success roll for
mundane tasks, or take the same detriment
and perform a feat of cooperative telepathy
that can only be described as magical (such
as the ability to fully communicate with
one or more opthers at any distance), this
must be specified when you acquire the special.
- Combine two existing specials.
Lucid Dreaming
This power of dream allows the psychic to
control their dreams and to learn better
what the dream is trying to reveal. This
is a passive skill and incurs no power detriment.
Here is are some examples of specials for
Lucid Dreaming:
- The psychic can assist others in controlling
their dreams.
- Duplicate the skill Knowledge (Dreams).
- +1 when using Sensitivity as a modifier (this
is a researched special and may not be acquired
through a level increase).
- Improve the difficulty classification by
one (this is a level-of-five special).
- Magical effect for a detriment, (this is
a level-of-five special and the character
must have an MP of 1 or more). When using
this you gain a basic power detriment but
are able to add 60 to your success roll for
mundane tasks, or take the same detriment
and perform a feat of lucid dreaming that
can only be described as magical (such as
the ability to create a dream reality that
can act as another plane of existence that
lasts for the duration of the dream), this
must be specified when you acquire the special.
- Combine two existing specials.
Personal Psychic Shield
The character must have the power Sensitivity
to acquire this internal power. Personal
psychic shield allows the psychic to defend
against psychic attacks on the psychic; no
one else may be defended. The level of success
is split between the duration and effect.
The effect is the equivalent of HP used to
purchase a difficult power. This power is
called psychic protection and lasts the stated
duration. Personal psychic shield develops
spontaneously. This is active and incurs
a basic power detriment. Here is are some
examples of specials for Personal Psychic
Shield:
- The psychic can use their personal shield
against works of detection.
- +1 when using Sensitivity as a modifier (this
is a researched special and may not be acquired
through a level increase).
- Improve the difficulty classification by
one (this is a level-of-five special).
- Duplicate Psychic Shield (this is a level-of-five
special).
- Magical effect for a detriment, (this is
a level-of-five special and the character
must have an MP of 1 or more). When using
this you gain a basic power detriment but
are able to add 60 to your success roll for
mundane tasks, or take the same detriment
and perform psychic shielding that can only
be described as magical (such as the ability
to defend against a magical spell), this
must be specified when you acquire the special.
- Combine two existing specials.
Psychic Bonding
The character must have the power Sensitivity
to acquire this power of emotion. Psychic
bonding allows the psychic to create an intimate
link with another individual for a period
of time. The level of success is split between
the effect and the duration. This effect
is the equivalent of HP used to purchase
a basic psychic effect that the bonded individual
gains, called psychic bond. All psychic powers
performed by the psychic on the bonded individual
have a bonus equal to the psychic bond. In
order to acquire this skill the user must
meditate for a period of 30 days(less one
day per PY) and spend the necessary HP. This
power incurs a basic psychic detriment. Here
is are some examples of specials for Psychic
Bonding:
- The psychic can extend this link to more
than one individual at a time.
- +1 when using Sensitivity as a modifier (this
is a researched special and may not be acquired
through a level increase).
- Improve the difficulty classification by
one (this is a level-of-five special).
- Duplicate Telepathy for anyone bonded (this
is a level-of-five special).
- Magical effect for a detriment, (this is
a level-of-five special and the character
must have an MP of 1 or more). When using
this you gain a basic power detriment but
are able to add 60 to your success roll for
mundane tasks, or take the same detriment
and perform a feat of psychic bonding that
can only be described as magical (such as
the ability to know what is happening to
anyone bonded), this must be specified when
you acquire the special.
- Combine two existing specials.
Sensitivity
Sensitivity is a power of perception allowing
the psychic to be open to manifestations
in the psychic world. It allows them to notice
that things are happening, powers are in
use, and can even provide insights as to
what is happening. This power develops spontaneously.
Sensitivity incurs a basic power detriment.
Here is are some examples of specials for
Sensitivity:
- The psychic can duplicate a specific Sensitivity-based
basic power.
- Enter a meditative state allowing you to
draw upon psychic forms to recover from PY
detriments. This takes an hour.
- +1 when using PY as a modifier (this is a
researched special and may not be acquired
through a level increase).
- The psychic can duplicate a specific Sensitivity-based
difficult power (only if the character has
achieved a multiple of 5 in their level).
- The psychic can duplicate a specific Sensitivity-based
extreme power (only if the character has
achieved a multiple of 10 in their level).
- Magical effect for a detriment, (this is
a level-of-five special and the character
must have an MP of 1 or more). When using
this you gain a basic power detriment but
are able to add 60 to your success roll for
mundane tasks, or take the same detriment
and perform a feat of sensitivity that can
only be described as magical (such as the
ability to sense magical spelss and supernatural
powers as if you had Magical Senses), this
must be specified when you acquire the special.
