Difficult Psychic Powers
Introduction
These are powers that are active, but are
also limited in some way; or they are passive
and do not require the cooperation of the
target.
Clairvoyance
A difficult power of perception allowing
the character to see what is happening at
a place or the location of a person or thing
whose name is known to the psychic. This
may be acquired after 180 days of study and
practice. Here are some examples of specials
for clairvoyance:
- The character can also hear what is happening.
- Gain a +1 when a person known to the psychic
is present at the target (this is a researched
special).
- +1 to Observation when used as a modifier
(this is a researched special).
- +1 to Find Hidden when used as a modifier
(this is a researched special).
- Sense supernatural forces (this is a level-of-five
special).
- Improve the difficulty classification by
one (this is a level-of-five special).
- Magical effect for a detriment, (this is
a level-of-five special and the character
must have an MP of 1 or more). When using
this you gain a difficult power detriment
but are able to add 60 to your success roll
for mundane tasks, or take the same detriment
and perform a feat of clairvoyance that can
only be described as magical (such as the
ability to communicate with those being observed),
this must be specified when you acquire the
special.
- Combine two existing specials.
Empathy
The character must have the power Sensitivity
to acquire this power of emotion. Empathy
allows the character to experience the emotions
of others. The level of success is split
between the distance to the target and the
ability to overcome defenses. Development
of this skill is spontaneous, though it appears
frequently after the character experiences
someone else's emotion trauma. This is passive
and incurs no power detriment. Here are some
examples of specials for Empathy:
- The psychic can split their result between
duration, effect, and distance; the psychics
projects an emotion into their target for
the duration.
- The psychic can draw an emotion out of an
individual and take it into themselves; thus
relieving the target of that emotion.
- The psychic can draw a psychological problem
out of individual and take it into themselves;
thus relieving the target of that problem.
- The psychic can project an emotion.
- +1 when using Sensitivity as a modifier (this
is a researched special).
- +1 to social interactions when using this
as a modifier (this is a researched special).
- The psychic can diagnose emotional or psychological
problems (only on a multiple of 5, and only
if the psychic is experienced at drawing
emotions and psychological problems out of
individuals).
- Improve the difficulty classification by
one (this is a level-of-five special).
- The psychic can heal emotional or psychological
damage (only on a multiple of 10, and only
if the psychic has experience at diagnosis).
- Magical effect for a detriment, (this is
a level-of-five special and the character
must have an MP of 1 or more). When using
this you gain a difficult power detriment
but are able to add 60 to your success roll
for mundane tasks, or take the same detriment
and perform a feat of empathy that can only
be described as magical (such as the ability
to call up an astral being of emotion thqat
will attach itself to a target, or take an
emotion from the target), this must be specified
when you acquire the special.
- Combine two existing specials.
Healing
The character must have the power Sensitivity
to acquire this power of thought. Healing
allows the psychic to heal others. The level
of success is split between range to the
target and the effect. The effect manifests
as a pool of HP that amy be used to buy down
adverse physical and mechanical conditions
(such as pain, bleeding, afflicted, etc.)
Development of this power is spontaneous,
though it is frequently manifest after sustaining
a wound. Healing is active and incurs a difficult
power detriment. Here is an example of a
special for Healing:
- The psychic can extend the healing with a
duration, throughout which the target will
receive the benefit of the healing at the
level of effect.
- Diagnose a wound or disease.
- +1 when using Sensitivity as a modifier (this
is a researched special).
- +1 when healing a specific type of conditions
(Pain, Bleeding, etc, this can be taken repeated,
but the condition must be specified each
time)(this is a researched special).
- Improve the difficulty classification by
one (this is a level-of-five special).
- The character can emit a healing aura, the
split is effect, duration, and volume of
effect (this is a level-of-five special).
- Magical effect for a detriment, (this is
a level-of-five special and the character
must have an MP of 1 or more). When using
this you gain a difficult power detriment
but are able to add 60 to your success roll
for mundane tasks, or take the same detriment
and perform a feat of healing that can only
be described as magical (such as the ability
to heal wounds that can only be healed by
magic), this must be specified when you acquire
the special.
- Combine two existing specials.
Infuse Psychic Power
Must have the power Psychic Bonding to acquire
this power of thought. This skill allows
the psychic to load a psychic power into
a physical object. The level of success is
treated as though it were HP used to acquire
the psychic power. The psychic power item
loses a pip of the skill every day. This
power may be acquired by spending History
Points and by spending at least 180 days
(less the PY of the character in days) in
daily meditation (with at least eight hours
of meditation daily). This is active and
incurs a difficult power detriment. See the
section Psychic Power Items below. Here is
an example of a special for Infuse Psychic
Power:
- The psychic can infuse more than one object
at a time.
- +1 when using Psychic Bonding as a modifier
(this is a researched special).
- -1 to the infusion roll results in the loss
extended so that the item loses a pip every
other day (this is a researched special).
- Improve the difficulty classification by
one (this is a level-of-five special).
- Infuse multiple powers into a single item
(this is a level-of-five special).
- Magical effect for a detriment, (this is
a level-of-five special and the character
must have an MP of 1 or more). When using
this you gain a difficult power detriment
but are able to add 60 to your success roll
for mundane tasks, or take the same detriment
and perform a feat of infusing psychic powers
that can only be described as magical (such
as the ability to make the psychic power
of the item into a magical power), this must
be specified when you acquire the special.
- Combine two existing specials.
Location
Must have the power Sensitivity to acquire
this power of perception. This skill allows
the psychic to detect something specific.
The level of success is split between range
to the target and level of protection that
must be overcome. This power may be acquired
by spending History Points and by spending
at least 180 days (less the PY of the character
in days) in daily meditation (with at least
eight hours of meditation daily). This is
active and incurs a difficult power detriment.
Here are some examples of specials for Location:
- Locate more than one thing at a time.
- +1 to locate a specific class of thing, such
as traps, secret doors, coins, etc. (this
may be acquired for each type of object)(this
is a researched special).
- Improve the difficulty classification by
one (this is a level-of-five special).
- Magical effect for a detriment, (this is
a level-of-five special and the character
must have an MP of 1 or more). When using
this you gain a difficult power detriment
but are able to add 60 to your success roll
for mundane tasks, or take the same detriment
and perform a feat of location that can only
be described as magical (such as the ability
to locate something on other planes), this
must be specified when you acquire the special.
- Combine two existing specials.
Postcognition
Must have the power Sensitivity to acquire
this power of perception. This skill allows
the psychic to know the past. The level of
success is split between range to the target,
how far back in time the psychic can perceive,
and any level of protection that must be
overcome. This power may be acquired by spending
History Points and by spending at least 180
days (less the PY of the character in days)
in daily meditation (with at least eight
hours of meditation daily). This is active
and incurs a difficult power detriment. Here
is an example of a special for Postcognition:
- The psychic can sense the presence of the
Guardians of Time, terrible spiritual forces
that work to prevent any manipulation of
time.
- +1 when using Sensitivity as a modifier (this
is a researched special).
- Improve the difficulty classification by
one (this is a level-of-five special).
- Magical effect for a detriment, (this is
a level-of-five special and the character
must have an MP of 1 or more). When using
this you gain a difficult power detriment
but are able to add 60 to your success roll
for mundane tasks, or take the same detriment
and perform a feat of postcognition that
can only be described as magical (such as
the ability to know about supernatural forces
or spells of the past), this must be specified
when you acquire the special.

Psychic Shield
This power of thought allows the character
to defend against psychic attacks. The level
of success is split between the duration
and level of protection. This power develops
spontaneously. This is active and incurs
a difficult power detriment. Here are some
examples of specials for Psychic Shield:
- The psychic can use their shield against
works of detection.
- The psychic can split the result to protect
a specified volume.
- +1 when using Sensitivity as a modifier (this
is a researched special).
- +1 when defending against a specific psychic
power (this may be acquired repeatedly for
specific psychic powers)(this is a researched
special).
- Improve the difficulty classification by
one (this is a level-of-five special).
- Magical effect for a detriment, (this is
a level-of-five special and the character
must have an MP of 1 or more). When using
this you gain a difficult power detriment
but are able to add 60 to your success roll
for mundane tasks, or take the same detriment
and perform a feat of psychic shield that
can only be described as magical (such as
the ability to protect from spells), this
must be specified when you acquire the special.
- Combine two existing specials.
Psychometry
This power of perception allows the character
to learn the history and properties of an
object by touch. This power requires 180
days of practice. Here are some specials
of psychometry:
- Read an object at a distance.
- +1 when using Sensitivity as a modifier (this
is a researched special).
- +1 when using Knowledge (History) as a modifier
(this is a researched special).
- +1 when reading a specific type of object
(this may be acquired for diffferent kinds
of objects)(this is a researched special).
- Improve the difficulty classification by
one (this is a level-of-five special).
- Determine whether an object has a supernatural
capability (this is a level-of-five special).
- Magical effect for a detriment, (this is
a level-of-five special and the character
must have an MP of 1 or more). When using
this you gain a difficult power detriment
but are able to add 60 to your success roll
for mundane tasks, or take the same detriment
and perform a feat of psychometry that can
only be described as magical (such as the
ability to identify magical properties of
an object), this must be specified when you
acquire the special.
- Combine two existing specials.
Read Thoughts
Must have the power Sensitivity to acquire
this power of perception. This skill allows
the psychic to read the surface thoughts
of an individual, that is thoughts that are
immediately on the mind of the target. This
power may be acquired by spending History
Points and by spending at least 180 days
(less the PY of the character in days) in
daily meditation (with at least eight hours
of meditation daily). This is active and
incurs a difficult power detriment. Here
is an example of a special for Read Surface
Thoughts:
- The psychic can use this to identify enemies.
- +1 when the target is known to the psychic
(this is a researched special).
- +1 when using Sensitivity as a modifier (this
is a researched special).
- The psychic can read any level of thought
(only if the character has achieved a multiple
of 5 in their level).
- Improve the difficulty classification by
one (this is a level-of-five special).
- Magical effect for a detriment, (this is
a level-of-five special and the character
must have an MP of 1 or more). When using
this you gain a difficult power detriment
but are able to add 60 to your success roll
for mundane tasks, or take the same detriment
and perform a feat of reading thoughts that
can only be described as magical (such as
the ability to read the mind of supernatural
beings), this must be specified when you
acquire the special.
- Combine two existing specials.
Telepathy
Must have the power Sensitivity to acquire
this power of thought. This is the ability
to transfer thoughts from one mind to another.
The level of success is split between the
effect, the range to the other mind, the
duration of contact, and any defenses that
must be overcome. This power develops spontaneously
(spend the necessary HP). This is active
and incurs a difficult power detriment. Here
is an example of a special for Telepathy:
- The psychic can include more than one other
in the transfer of thoughts.
- +1 when the target is known to the psychic
(this is a researched special).
- +1 when using Sensitivity as a modifier (this
is a researched special).
- Improve the difficulty classification by
one (this is a level-of-five special).
- Magical effect for a detriment, (this is
a level-of-five special and the character
must have an MP of 1 or more). When using
this you gain a difficult power detriment
but are able to add 60 to your success roll
for mundane tasks, or take the same detriment
and perform a feat of telepathy that can
only be described as magical (such as the
ability to communicate with supernatural
beings), this must be specified when you
acquire the special.

Tracking
Must have the power Sensitivity to acquire
this power of perception. This skill allows
the psychic to locate and follow the trail
of a specific individual. The level of success
is split between age of the track, the duration
of the effect, and ability to overcome any
attempts made to conceal the trail or protect
the individual. This power may be acquired
by spending History Points and by spending
at least 180 days (less the PY of the character
in days) in daily meditation (with at least
eight hours of meditation daily). This is
active and incurs a difficult power detriment.
Here is an example of a special for Tracking:
- The psychic can identify the tracks they
are following.
