The 2nd Guard Division is not a true member of the Karameikan Army. It is under the direct command of the Duke or his son Justin, rather than being under the command of the Ministry of War. The division comprises three battalions; the 1st Battalion is called the Elvenguard, the 2nd Battalion is called the Duke's Guard, and the 3rd Battalion is simply called The Guard (also known within the Division as Olivia's Own Guard).
The 1st Battalion, Elvenguard, is under the command of a Captain and is organized into 3 guard companies. Each of the guard companies is under the command of a lieutenant and has three platoons of forty elvenguards. It is their responsibility to guard the Duke's Park and the forests surrounding Specularum. They also support the elves in the Radlebb Woods if the need arises.
The 2nd Battalion, Duke's Guard, is under the command of a Captain and is organized into 3 Duke's Guard companies, the Duke's Bodyguard, and the Duke's Spellguard. Each of the guard companies is under the command of a lieutenant and has three platoons of forty guards. The Duke's Guard is responsible for the defense of the Duke's Keep.
The Duke's Personal Bodyguard is drawn from the ranks of the guard companies. The training is lengthy and intense. Only 1 in 5 who sign up for the training make it in. The Duke's Personal Bodyguard is under the command of a lieutenant and has three platoons of forty bodyguards.
The Duke's Spellguard is the organization responsible for the magical defense of the Duke. This company draws its recruits from Darine Mystics, Darine Seers, Guild Wizards, Thyatian Alchemists, Traladaran Folk Mages, and Traladaran Traditional Mages. These spellcasters work through the same training as all other recruits.
The 3rd Battalion, The Guard, is under the command of the Duchess Olivia herself and is organized into four companies. The 1st Company, Counterintelligence, is led by a lieutenant and has four platoons of forty guards. The 2nd Company, Espionage, is led by a lieutenant and has one platoon of forty guards for each Darokin, Ierendi, The Five Shires, The Minrothad Guilds, Thyatis, and Yalaruam. The 3rd Company, Scouts, is a unit that draws its members from the Frontier Guard and is led by a lieutenant and has six platoons, several of which are deployed to frontier forts, the remaining Scouts are deployed in squad strength to other forts and embassies, while others are placed in pairs aboard merchant ships. The 4th Company, Irregulars, is led by a lieutenant and has only two platoons of forty, each member of a platoon is assigned to recruit agents among the merchant/visitor community. The 5th and 6th Company, Special Operations, are each led by a lieutenant and have three plattons of forty men.
To become a member of the Duke's Guard Division you must begin with basic combat training.
