Wokani Spirit Pacts

The wokani is able to bargain with a spirit in return for the power to perform a specific magical intention. When this power is first purchased the wokani is allowed to choose a magical intention. It is assumed that the wokani knows the name of a lesser spirit who can provide the intention. With every additional level of power the wokani may choose another intention (and the name of the spirit associated with that intention). The wokani must sacrifice a pip of some PF- or MA-based skill (or even the attribute itself) to gain the pact.

Additionally, you have a detriment to your roll based on the level of the spirit you are calling: -5 for lesser, -10 for greater, -20 for noble, and -40 for royal. Failure results in a detriment only.

The level of success of the pact creates a new power called Spirit Pact for (place the intention here) where the level of success is converted into extreme magic pips. Every time you use this power, it diminishes by one pip until it is gone, or you raise it through the expense of HP.

Each pact will result in an increase in Wild Aura (d), for each level of the spirit (lesser, greater, noble, and royal). Wild Aura is a magical condition that makes those who are civilized distrust and feel uneasy around the magician, while those who are more rural or in the wilderness will find comfort.

The orc has a spirit book that contains the names and symbols of the spirits that the orc has conjured and made pacts with. This book is necessary for performing the ritual of pacts. The book is made from pages made of dried, scraped, and stretched leather. Each page takes a full week to make. The book is bound by two sheets of tree bark. There must be at least ten pages per book. A Construct Spirit Book roll is required.

The orc wokani also has a magic item for protection called a Wand of Blasting. This wand is cut from a Hazel tree by the light of the full moon. The branch is dried for a full month. A Construct Wand of Blasting roll is required.

Here is the Ritual of Pacts:

  1. The orc must state what is desired of a particular spirit.

  2. Under the light of the full moon the orc builds a large bonfire.

  3. The orc then consecrates the area and the tools by performing a Ritual of Spirit Pacts roll.

  4. The orc calls out to the spirit world to find the spirit to fulfill the orc’s desire. Another Ritual of Spirit Pacts roll is made, there is a -2 detriment. Failure results in a -2 power detriment and the ritual fails completely.

  5. On contact with the spirit the orc explains what is desired and that a pact is being offered. The orc offers to sacrifice a certain number of levels in some PF-based skill to spirit. At this time a length of time for the power is agreed to. The length of time should be equivalent to the HP cost of the reduction.

  6. If the terms of the pact are acceptable the spirit will grant the request by directly granting the power to the orc at the level of the spirit.

  7. The power goes away when the terms of the pact are ended.
