Beliefs of the Dwarf Priests

  1. Kagyar became an immortal who created the dwarven race. He is the patron of artisans and represents the earth and mountains. Kagyar manifests as a hairy and gnarled man deep-set and beady eyes wearing a hooded gray robe and carrying a hammer in one hand and a chisel in the other.

  2. Faith is the force that brings the power of Immortals into the world.

  3. Nature is composed of five spheres of power; Matter, Energy, Thought, Time, and Entropy.

  4. The Mines of Kagyar, is a vast place where dwarves can work to discover wonders and make timeless works of art awaits the faithful after death. This is a place where a dwarf may do their work forever.

  5. The faithful may receive divine inspiration upon a successful prayer.

  6. Your role in the afterlife is determined by your inventiveness in life.

The level of success of this prayer allows the priest to recover from power detriments at the level of success.

Rituals of the Priest

Worship Ceremony

This is an hour long ceremony performed once per day at the stroke of noon. This serves to raise the mood of the faithful.

High Worship Ceremony

A two hour long ceremony performed only on holy days. This ceremony carries a protection from magic for all faithful participants for twenty-four hours at the level of success.

Ceremony of Initiation

This playful ceremony brings someone into the faith of Kagyar.

Investment of an Acolyte

This hour long ceremony results in the investment of an acolyte.

Invoke the Power of Craftsmanship

This two hour long ceremony results in the priest being allowed to use or enhance a specific Craftsman (MA) (b) skill. The level of success is split between effect and duration.

Conjure the Hammer of Kagyar

This ceremony has two variants. The first requires a hammer and after an hour of prayer and hymns to Kagyar the weapon will be temporarily sanctified. The level of success is split between the effect (damage add) and the duration of the sanctification.

The second variant is that it will physically conjure a sanctified hammer to the priest. This is identical to the first variant, except that the level of success is the duration, there is a -20 detriment and the weapon automatically does Extreme damage.

Rituals of the High Priest

Ceremony of Excommunication

This is a drastic step that must be carefully considered. This is an hour long ceremony that severs an individual’s connection to the church.

Ceremony of Investment of a Priest

This is a two hour ceremony that invests an acolyte with the powers of a priest.

Benediction of the Priest

This benediction allows the priest to help the faithful. The level of success is split between the effect (a bonus to die rolls), the number of the faithful who receive this benediction, and the duration of the effect.

Create True Holy Symbol

This benediction allows the priest to use their personal holy symbol as a vessel of power. Whenever this benediction is performed the result is power pool that is added to the holy symbol. This power pool is drawn by power detriments. When the pool reaches zero, then the detriments begin to effect the priest. The priest may not use the power pool from a holy symbol in the creation of a holy symbol. Once the benediction is made there is a -3 power detriment.

Consecration

This allows the priest to sanctify a place as holy ground. This must be done before a temple may be built.

The Forge of Power

The Forge of Power is a manifestation of Kagyar’s care for the dwarves. The forge consists of a crucible and an anvil. Objects placed within the crucible are immediately heated to the appropriate temperature to be worked. Each clan has such a Forge. A High Priest can use such a Forge to perform the following powers:

  1. Cure Blindness
  2. Cure Disease
  3. Neutralize Poison
  4. Heal Wounds
  5. Identify Magic Item
  6. Turn Undead

These powers are all at the level of a lesser spirit.

One dwarf is chosen as the Keeper of the Forge. This dwarf is tasked with tending the forge in all circumstances. If the forge is stolen, it is the Keeper who must recover it.

The Keeper, the Clanmaster, and a dozen powerful dwarves (whose Craft Magic skill is at least 5) can work together to create a Dwarven Lens. This Lens is a paper thin sheet of gold that requires 800 years to construct. When finished it is placed within a ring of pure quartz. This lens is used to create Oil of Darkness.

Oil of Darkness is the concentrated distillate of darkness itself. It takes one year to create a usable quantity of the Oil using the Dwarven Lens. The process of creating the Oil requires total darkness and any light that shines on it will ruin it. Oil of Darkness has many uses:

A Dwarven Rockship is created when 100 year’s worth of the Oil of Darkness is poured onto pure rock. The result is a permanent magical vessel made of rock. This vessel can travel through rock at speeds of 60 kilometers per hour. It can transport ten dwarves (and up to a metric ton) at a time.
